Wide Hollow Reservoir is well-stocked with rainbow trout and bluegill, and its clear blue waters are a favorite local destination for boating, canoeing, and water sports.
Shore fishing is the preferred method, as motorized boats are prohibited. The reservoir is also ideal for swimming. Paddleboards, kayaks, and canoes can be rented to enjoy a day on the water. During your adventures, keep your eyes open for wildlife viewing and the numerous occasions that could warrant a photo op. Ice fishing is also a fun way to experience the area.
The reservoir was created in 1954 to provide irrigation for nearby Escalante. Facilities include the Wide Hollow campground, Lave View RV campground with hookups, a group camping area, restrooms, a picnic area, and a boat ramp. Escalate Petrified Forest State Park can be easily reached via Scenic Byway 12 to Escalante, then following signs to the park. The park is open year-round.
