Wide Hollow Reservoir is well-stocked with rainbow trout and bluegill, and its clear blue waters are a favorite local destination for boating, canoeing, and water sports.
The reservoir is also ideal for swimming, shore fishing, or motorboats. Paddleboards, kayaks, and canoes can be rented to enjoy a day on the water. During your adventures, keep your eyes open for wildlife viewing and the numerous occasions that could warrant a photo op. Ice fishing is also a fun way to experience the area.
The reservoir was created in 1954 to provide irrigation for nearby Escalante. Facilities include the Wide Hollow campground, Lave View RV campground with hookups, a group camping area, restrooms, a picnic area, and a boat ramp. Escalate Petrified Forest State Park can be easily reached via Scenic Byway 12 to Escalante, then following signs to the park. The park is open year-round.
