Scenic Backways
Notom Rd 29 miles / 1 to 2 hours. Dry weather dirt/ high clearance vehicles (all year)
Bull Mountain Rd 68 miles / 6 to 7 hours. Single lane, dry weather dirt road / high clearance vehicles.
Burr Trail 70 miles / 4-1/2 hours. Hard surfaced, graded dirt and gravel road / passenger cars in good weather 4-wheel drive recommended. Crosses Grand Staircase-Escalante Nat'l Monument, Capitol Reef's Waterpocket Fold and ends at Lake Powell. Views of Henry Mountains.
Posey Lake Rd 40 miles / 1 hour. Single lane dirt and gravel road (closed in winter). Dixie Nat'l Forest, Posey Lake, fishing and camping.
Griffin Top Rd 32 miles / 1 hour. Narrow single lane dirt and gravel road (closed in winter) / passenger cars. Dixie Nat'l Forest, views from the Aquarius Plateau, excellent for wildlife viewing.
Hole-In-The-Rock Rd 57 miles one way / all day ride. Gravel and graded dirt road / passenger cars. Hole-In-The-Rock, Devil's Garden, Glen Canyon, vistas of Lake Powell, Grand Staircase-Escalante Nat'l Monument, slickrock canyons, cliffs.
Smoky Mountain Rd 78 miles / 5 hours. Dirt and gravel / high clearance vehicles. Grand Staircase-Escalante Nat'l Monument, views of Lake Powell, Navajo Mountain, Fifty Mile Mountain, Bryce Canyon, the Table Cliffs and Boulder Mountain.
Cottonwood Canyon Rd 46 miles / 2 hours. Graded dry weather dirt road; paved and gravel sections. Kodachrome Basin, Grand Staircase-Escalante N.M., Grosvenor Arch.
East Fork of the Sevier 30 miles one way / 1-1/2 to 3 hours. Double and single lane gravel / passenger cars. East Fork of the Sevier River, Tropic Reservoir, Podunk Guard Station, Dixie National Forest; a broad forested valley with Bryce-like formations. Excellent wildlife viewing.
